Programs & Activities

We meet on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. at the Village Learning Place at 2521 Saint Paul Street. From May through September, our weekly meetings begin with lively, informative talks given by a wide range of knowledgeable, notable speakers, including Hugh Taft-Morales, Baltimore Ethical Society’s current Ethical Culture Leader. A question/answer and discussion period follows, giving those attending a chance to question the speaker, discuss the issues, and present their own opinions. At the end of the discussion period, there is a coffee hour which gives members, newcomers, and visitors the opportunity to socialize. Educational activities are separately provided for children during the meetings that take place these nine months. From June through August, our weekly Sunday meetings still take place but are less formally structured. Members often present at our summer meetings, sharing their interests and skills.

(See: Upcoming Sunday Morning Activities).

Many other activities—often taking place before or after our weekly Sunday meetings—are hosted and sponsored by the Baltimore Ethical Society. Adult classes and workshops are a regular occurrence. Other activities have included potlucks, book discussions, meditation and poetry groups as well as peace and justice initiatives, movie and documentary screenings, young adult essay contests, ceremonies celebrating seasonal turning points and commemorating personal and historical milestones, food drives, work parties, and picnics. Also, ethical action projects have been undertaken by members singly or in groups.
