“The Right to Gun Ownership”
What is the constitutional basis for the second amendment and what is meant by it? How did the Federalist Papers envision guns in the hands of the people? How have laws and court decisions limited and expanded gun rights since the second amendment was ratified?
BES member Stuart Hirsch will give his perspective as a new gun owner and how and why he has changed his opinion of gun ownership and how he now understands and now supports the right to own guns, what he thinks the rights and responsibilities of gun ownership, and what he thinks reasonable and responsible gun legislation and regulation should be to both protect our right to own firearms and better protect potential victims of gun violence.
Stuart Hirsch is a member of the Baltimore Ethical Society and regularly presents platforms during our “Summer Sundays” when we invite our members to present on topics of interest to them.
