“Solstice Reflections and Celebrations”
The winter solstice brings the shortest days and longest nights. For all of recorded history, human beings have marked this time of the year – sometimes by calling on gods to bring back the sun that nourishes life, and other times by gathering together to stoke our communal hearth. Hugh Taft-Morales offers reflections, readings, and song about this time of the year. Playing with the themes of darkness and light, science and history, snow and celebration, let’s support each other through cold days and remember that spring is just around the corner!
Hugh Taft-Morales joined the Baltimore Ethical Society as its professional leader in 2010, the same year he was certified by the American Ethical Union as an Ethical Culture Leader. He also serves as Leader of the Ethical Humanist Society of Philadelphia. His presence in Ethical Culture has been termed “invigorating.” Taft-Morales lives in Takoma Park, Maryland, with his wife Maureen, a Latin American Analyst with the Congressional Research Service, with whom he has three beloved children, Sean, Maya, and Justin.
