“Fighting For a Government That Represents Maryland’s Working Families”
Charly Carter, Executive Director of Maryland Working Families, will speak on the victories and strategies of this independent grassroots political organization, and the vision of a grassroots movement that counters the influence of pro-business lobbyists in the Maryland General Assembly.
Maryland Working Families recruits, trains and elects candidates, organizes issue campaigns to move progressive legislation; and is building a movement of working families to hold our leaders accountable.
Maryland Working Families is affiliated with the national Working Families Organization, which has run aggressive campaigns to win minimum wage increases and paid sick day laws in a number of cities and states, has fought off school privatization schemes, raised taxes on the rich to fund hospitals and schools, created green jobs, and has passed the nation’s most innovative plans to tackle student debt.
Hundreds of thousands of individuals are part of the Working Families community, along with labor, community, environmental, netroots, youth, and faith organizations. Issues include criminal justice reform, affordable housing, fair taxes and budgets, minimum wage, debt-free higher education, workers rights, voting rights, and money in politics.
Maryland Working Families fights for a government that represents the values and works for the needs of Maryland’s working families.
