“Courage, Imagination and the Challenge of Art”
Evocative art (and perhaps especially poetry) often pushes us to ask uncomfortable questions about ways we have framed our understandings about ourselves and our world. I plan to explore how the challenge of art can lead us toward more mindful and compassionate lives.
Michael S. Glaser served as Poet Laureate of Maryland from 2004 – 2009. the father of five children and grandfather of 10, he is a Professor Emeritus at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. He has edited three anthologies of poetry, co-edited the Complete Poems of Lucille Clifton and published several award winning volumes of his own work, most recently. Threshold of Light which won the Bright Hill chapbook award. Glaser spent over 25 years serving as a Maryland Arts Council Poet-in-the Schools. He has also served as a Board member of both Maryland Humanities and the Kirkridge Retreat and Study Center. More at www.michaelsglaser.com.
